Morodok Techo National Stadium — Phnom Penh,

Morodok Techo National Stadium — Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Morodok Techo National Stadium is Cambodia’s largest and newest national stadium and the centerpiece of the Morodok Techo National Sports Complex in Phnom Penh’s Chroy Changvar area. Construction of the main stadium began in 2017 and it was completed in 2021, with the project receiving major financial support from China. The stadium was built as the centerpiece for Cambodia’s hosting of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games and ASEAN Para Games. It can accommodate approximately 60,000 spectators, making it one of the largest stadiums in Southeast Asia.

The stadium is also notable for its unusual architecture. Its exterior was designed to resemble a large sailing ship, while the surrounding water and landscaping incorporate ideas associated with Cambodia’s traditional architecture and the national rumduol flower. The stadium has become an important landmark for modern Phnom Penh and is used for major football matches, athletics, international sporting competitions, ceremonies and other large-scale events. It hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2023 SEA Games and has also hosted international football and cricket.

Morodok Techo National Stadium — Phnom Penh,

National Olympic Stadium — Phnom Penh, Cambodia

The National Olympic Stadium is one of Cambodia’s most famous sporting landmarks. Construction began in the early 1960s and the stadium opened in 1964. It was designed by renowned Cambodian architect Vann Molyvann, one of the leading figures of Cambodia’s New Khmer Architecture movement. The design uses large earthworks, open spaces and distinctive concrete structures to create a stadium suited to Phnom Penh’s hot climate. Despite its name, Cambodia has never hosted the Olympic Games, and the stadium was not an Olympic venue.

The stadium has played an important role in Cambodia’s sporting history for more than 60 years. It has hosted international football, athletics, regional competitions, national celebrations and major public events. It was also associated with the 1966 GANEFO games, an important international sporting event held in Phnom Penh during the Cold War era. More recently, the stadium was renovated and used for football during the 2023 Southeast Asian Games, while Cambodia’s national football team continues to play important matches there. The current event capacity is commonly listed at around 30,000 spectators, although older sources give higher figures for the stadium’s historical configurations.

The stadium has hosted Cambodia national-team football, international football matches, athletics, regional competitions and other sporting events. Recent international matches include Cambodia’s games against Hong Kong and Bhutan in June 2026, as well as earlier FIFA/AFC and ASEAN competitions.

The stadium also has a second side that tourists may enjoy: it functions as a major public exercise area, with people using the surrounding paths and stadium facilities for running and walking, particularly in the cooler morning and evening hours. National Sports Complex oversees the national sports facilities.

Tourist tip: The National Olympic Stadium and Morodok Techo National Stadium are two completely different stadiums. The Olympic Stadium is the historic, centrally located venue from the 1960s, while Morodok Techo is the newer 60,000-seat national stadium. For FestivalEvents, I would definitely list both as separate major Phnom Penh venues.

National Olympic Stadium — Phnom Penh,

Prince Stadium — Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Prince Stadium, officially known as Visakha Stadium, is a modern football stadium in the Sen Sok area of Phnom Penh and the home ground of Visakha FC, one of Cambodia’s leading professional football clubs. The stadium holds approximately 15,000 spectators and is primarily designed for football, giving it a much more intimate club-stadium atmosphere than the 30,000-seat National Olympic Stadium or the huge 60,000-seat Morodok Techo National Stadium. The stadium became known as Prince Stadium in 2020, when the name change was formally announced at a Visakha FC event.

The stadium is an important part of Cambodia’s modern football scene. It was used as a venue during the 2023 Southeast Asian Games, and Visakha FC plays its home matches there during Cambodian Premier League competition. The venue has floodlights for evening matches and is primarily a football destination rather than a general-purpose concert and entertainment stadium. For tourists, a match day is likely to be the best opportunity to experience the stadium, Cambodian professional football and the local supporter atmosphere.

The main events are Visakha FC home matches and Cambodian Premier League games, along with selected cup and regional football matches. Football schedules can change, so FestivalEvents should link visitors to the current team/competition schedule rather than publishing old fixtures as upcoming events.

That gives you three distinctly different major stadium listings for Phnom Penh.
